1. 11 Things Leaders Should Never Say to Teams

If you are someone (like me) who has to pay attention to being an effective manager because it is not easy, there is a trend towards being more of a coach. When I try to put it into words, being “more of a listener” and “someone who asks questions” are a couple that come to mind. In fact, it actually sounds like common sense and should be easy to apply. This article by Headway Capital suggests 11-Things Managers should do – and not do – if they want to be more effective and lead a more productive team. Then for anyone who wants to dig deeper, this book is both current and outstanding on the subject. I would go as far to say that the principles in the book and the article are more about life coaching than business coaching.

2. Life-Changing Classics: Acres of Diamonds

Russell Conwell, a familiar name to some, has an interesting history. I was reacquainted with him when I reread his famous Acres of Diamonds book. He originally delivered it in 1882 as a lecture and it was later published in book form in 1890. Conwell was 82 when he passed away in 1925, but not before he founded Temple University in Philadelphia. He also served as Captain in the Union army during the Civil War, was a lawyer and eventually a Baptist minister. However, the book is timeless in my opinion and can serve as a source of inspiration to anyone – young and old. The principles outlined are about working hard to get ahead but also smart with “diamonds” that are right in front of each of us. It is easy to find with an internet search for a variety of renditions of his message.

3. 15 Foods You Should Never Keep in Your Pantry

The post here is for the foodies in the group. There are 16-food hints that are quite intriguing. For me, I will keep bananas out of the fridge – thank you very little – but consider putting an open (and corked) bottle of red wine in the fridge. If you are an “expert” in any of these areas, we would love to hear from you!
